Who is the course for?
This 10 hour course is for complete beginners with little or no previous knowledge of computers. It is suitable for those of you that are interested in gaining an insight into computing and feel nervous about getting started, or have a computer at home and don't know where to start!
What does the course aim to do?
A gentle introduction to develop your confidence when using a computer. You will have the opportunity to identify and use the main features of a computer and gain a basic understanding of simple word processing features.
What will be covered?
- Introduction to the main parts of the computer - mouse, keyboard, monitor
- Explanation of some computer jargon
- Creating a document using Word
- How to edit text (centring, highlighting, changing fonts, italics etc)
- Saving files and opening saved files
- Adding a picture using clip art
- Printing a document
- An introduction to the internet
- Sending and receiving e-mail
- Using attachments
What are the final qualifications?
There are no formal qualifications or tests to be taken at the end of the course. A certificate of achievement will be issued on completion of the course.
How will I be assessed?
There is no formal assessment however advice, guidance and support will be given as required.
Will I have to study at home?
No, however you may wish to use some time at home to practice the skills you have learnt in class.
How much does the course cost?
£25.00
You may be entitled to a fee remission if you are in receipt
of certain benefits.
Are there any additional costs?
Handouts are provided, you just need to bring something to write with.
