Should I Attend This Course?

This course is designed for complete beginners with no or very little experience with computers. It is aimed at people who feel a little nervous about engaging with a computer, or do not own a machine and wouldn’t know where to begin.

What does the course aim to do?

A gentle introduction to develop your confidence when using a computer. You will have the opportunity to identify and use the main features of a computer and gain a basic understanding of simple word processing features. We use the Windows XP operating system and Office 2003.

What does this course cover?

Introduction to the main hardware components
Start-Up and Shut Down
How to use a computer safely
Using Passwords
Load and close software
Entering data using appropriate input devices
How to use Microsoft Word

What are the final qualifications?

There are no formal qualifications or tests to be taken at the end of the course. A certificate of achievement will be issued on completion of the course.

Is there an assessment?

There is no formal assessment however you will produce a portfolio of work during the course.

Where do I study?

All training takes place at the centre however if you wish to continue your learning at home or just to refresh your memory why not practice at home, or pop into the centre.

How much does the course cost?

£30.00 - You will need to pay a £10 deposit to book a place.
You may be entitled to a fee remission if you are in receipt of certain benefits.

Handouts are provided, you just need to bring something to write with. You may wish to purchase a USB data pen or a CD so you transfer your files to your home PC.
